The Kansas City Chiefs have traded QB Tyler Thigpen to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for an undisclosed selection in the 2010 NFL Draft. Thigpen (6-1, 224) played in 16 games (11 starts) in three seasons with Kansas City (2007-09). He completed 232 of 426 passes for 2,649 passes with 18 TDs and 13 INTs for a 74.7 rating. He added 63 carries for 388 yards with three TDs. He also caught a 37-yard TD pass in 2008. Thigpen was claimed off waivers by Kansas City from Minnesota in 2007 after originally entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick (217th overall) of the Vikings in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The Patriots have acquired linebacker Prescott Burgess from the Ravens for a conditional seventh-round pick. New England is without Jerod Mayo because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. To make room for Burgess on the 53-man roster, the Patriots released center Ryan Wendell.

The Lions have traded quarterback Kevin O'Connell to the Jets, according to two league sources. Detroit claimed O'Connell off waivers from New England earlier this week.

Jacksonville has acquired quarterback Luke McCown from Tampa Bay. In return, the Jaguars are sending the Buccaneers an undisclosed pick in next spring's NFL Draft.

New England has traded defensive lineman Richard Seymour to Oakland for a first-round pick in 2011. Seymour matched a career-high with eight sacks in 2008, and had spent his entire career with the Patriots. In another move, the Patriots reached agreement Sunday morning with free-agent guard Kendall Simmons.

The Lions have acquired safety Ko Simpson from the Bills. Detroit reportedly sent an undisclosed 2010 draft pick to Buffalo in exchange for Simpson. "I think he fits what we want to do," coach Jim Schwartz told the Detroit Free Press. "He's multidimensional. He's got the size we want. He's got good range, can also tackle. He's also been a pretty good contributor on special teams." The Bills drafted him in the fourth round in 2006 out of South Carolina.
